A very special shoot in Georgia.

Jacqueline is a fellow photographer in Georgia and she contacted me last summer wondering if I’d be in the Atlanta area anytime soon. Her dog, Spencer, had been diagnosed with cancer and she wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. But… the news came that after they amputated a leg, he was cancer free! They were ecstatic and we discussed 2012 travel plans since it looked like he’d hang in there quite a bit longer… however around the holidays this last year, the news came back that Spencer’s cancer was back. I arranged a trip to visit for three weeks later – Spencer just spoke to me and I couldn’t *not* photograph Spencer and the family that loves him so much.

The weather kept us on our toes, but the rain held off for our shoot at their cabin in Northern Georgia. This is one of my favorite shoots in recent history for so many reasons. I couldn’t narrow down what to show for this blog, but somehow I don’t think anyone will mind, right?

Orange County Pit Bull Rescue

Several months ago I had a chance to take photographs of several OCPBR (Orange County Pit Bull Rescue) foster (and adopted) dogs.

They were wonderful subjects and we were able to get some awesome photos to help raise awareness for them and to help find them homes! I’ve decided to make a short series of pet photo tips – one liners that are great starters for the newbies or those who just want to take better photos of their pets (or for adoptable pets!) I hope they’re helpful or entertaining, at least.

Leo, a former Michael Vick dog, and the legacy he leaves behind

Today I learned of the passing of a wonderful dog… One that touched many lives, including my own, and showed people what forgiveness is all about. Leo, rescued by Marthina McClay, became a therapy dog and showed love to many people throughout his life after being rescued.

I never blogged him, partly because I was waiting to get the album of he and his pack mates in the hands of his owner. Sadly, or perfectly (I can’t decide), the album will be delivered to her this week. I hope these images bring her comfort during this time… and I can only hope that they continue his legacy as a wonderful, loving, sweet dog.
